CBP Confirms: “Open for Business” During Government Shutdown

Government shutdown, open for business

Today, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials confirmed during their trade call that ports of entry remain fully staffed and operational despite the U.S. government shutdown. Cargo is being cleared, duties are being collected, and cross-border operations continue as normal.

CBP emphasized that it cannot speak for other Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) such as USDA or FDA, which may face staffing reductions that could cause isolated delays. However, CBP outlined contingency tools to help manage PGA holds and confirmed that core trade functions, permits, bonded warehouses, ACE support, revenue divisions, and cargo release all remain active.

The key takeaway is that cross-border freight is moving.
Minor slowdowns possible for PGA-regulated shipments.

At EP Logistics, we’re monitoring these updates closely to ensure our clients stay informed and their freight keeps moving.
