Upcoming Changes at Bridge of the Americas (BOTA)
In addition to the Ysleta disruption, we want to bring your attention to a long-term development: the Bridge of the Americas (BOTA) is set to undergo a major modernization project. Learn more here
What’s Changing?
The General Services Administration (GSA) has finalized plans to permanently remove commercial truck traffic from BOTA as part of a multi-year construction and environmental improvement initiative.
Why It Matters:
Once implemented, this will reroute over 1,000 daily cargo trucks to surrounding ports—potentially creating bottlenecks if not planned for accordingly.
Timeline:
The project’s design and construction contract solicitation is anticipated in summer 2025. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, with substantial completion anticipated by summer 2030.
